Signal 369 Publishing presents
A Novel by Brian Fitzgerald
What if perception itself could change reality? And what if something ancient had always known it?
A former police officer wins the lottery twice and realises it wasn't luck. And that someone else already knows it.
Ryan Vincent spent twenty-six years as a GMP custody sergeant reading people for a living. When his perception begins to expand beyond anything he can explain — probability bending toward his intent, consciousness separating from his body while he sleeps — he does what he has always done. He documents it. Tests it. Follows the evidence wherever it leads.
What he finds is real, grounded in documented science, and already being watched by people who understand it better than he does. What he does not yet know is that something far older is also watching — something that has been managing human consciousness for centuries, and has reasons of its own for noticing him.
The Frequency is a novel about a working-class Northerner who builds something extraordinary from the inside out. About the harder path being the right one. About a man who refuses every shortcut — and what he finds at the end of the road no one else took.
"The quantum universe is not angry with her. It does not need to be. It simply continues."
From The Frequency
The quantum universe is the ground of all being — not a god, not a personality, not an authority that issues instructions. The underlying substrate of all existence, present in every particle, every frequency, every moment of consciousness that has ever flickered into being. It does not enforce through punishment. It enforces through consequence. And it produces, through the most ordinary available routes, exactly what each situation requires at exactly the moment it is needed.
The Reticular Activating System filters four hundred billion bits of information per second down to two thousand bits of conscious awareness. When that filter expands, the range of available perception expands with it. This is not metaphor. This is neuroscience.
The mechanism does not respond to wishful thinking. It responds to felt certainty — the neurological state produced when the body treats a future event as already occurred, already integrated, already known. Not hope. Memory. The difference is everything.
The Schumann resonance — 7.83 hertz, the electromagnetic frequency of the Earth's atmosphere — sits precisely within the theta brainwave range associated with deep meditation and projection. This is measurable physics, not philosophy.
The architecture does not seek to destroy what disrupts it. It seeks to return things to their correct state. Every apparent antagonist is a disruption of a correct state. The resolution is always restoration rather than destruction.
Every scientific element in The Frequency is real and referenced. The fiction is in the specific outcomes. The mechanism is not.
The brain's primary filter for conscious experience. Documented to expand under prolonged stress, allowing perception of stimuli previously filtered from awareness. The physiological basis for Ryan's symptoms.
Electromagnetic resonances in the Earth's atmosphere, first measured at 7.83 hertz. Precisely aligned with the theta brainwave range associated with deep meditative states and the hypnagogic threshold.
Two slightly different frequencies delivered to each ear produce a perceived third frequency — a binaural beat — that the brain entrains to. A documented mechanism for shifting dominant brainwave states.
Contains photoreceptor cells — light-sensitive cells found in the retina — despite having no direct access to external light. The only structure in the brain not divided between hemispheres. Called the third eye by traditions predating Western neuroscience by millennia.
"If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration." His seized notebooks and the government's interest in his work on electromagnetic fields form part of the novel's historical architecture.
In his anatomical notebooks, c.1490, da Vinci wrote of the pineal gland: "The eye through which the soul regards itself." The fifteenth-century Florentine arrived at the same conclusion five centuries before the neuroscience could confirm the anatomy.
Full references and source material are provided in the Author's Note at the end of the novel.
Each book stands alone. Each answers a different question. Each explores the same underlying mechanism through a different human intelligence — forensic, visual, performative, philosophical. The world continues. The doorway changes. Deeper readers are rewarded.
"What if perception itself can change reality?"
Ryan Vincent has spent twenty-six years as a custody sergeant overriding his instincts. Procedure was everything. Evidence was everything. The feeling that arrived before the reasoning could be trusted for exactly nothing. Then one morning, exhausted and running on empty, his hand moved toward a lottery slip before his mind had quite decided to reach for it. What followed changed everything he thought he knew about perception, consciousness, and the signal he had spent a career filtering out. The Frequency is the story of what happens when a man finally stops overriding the most accurate thing about him.
"What if intuition sees patterns before logic does?"
Leah Renn has spent her career seeing what others miss. As a graphic designer she reads the room beneath the room — the real brief underneath the stated one, the truth underneath the surface. She has always been good at this. She has never fully understood why. When the man she loves begins to change in ways she cannot name, she notices. She files it. She does not yet know what she is filing it against. The Signal is the story of what Leah carries — and what happens when she finally stops explaining it away.
"What happens when someone understands influence completely?"
"What is the cost of seeing too much for too long?"
Brian Fitzgerald served twenty-six years with Greater Manchester Police, rising from probationary constable to acting Custody Inspector. He retired in 2023.
The Frequency is his debut novel. It draws on the specific perceptual environment of the custody block — the accumulated weight of other people's worst moments, the expanded awareness that comes with years of reading rooms professionally — as the foundation for a story about what that kind of experience can open in a person.
The scientific framework in the novel is real. The mechanism is not metaphor. The Author's Note at the end of the book provides full references to the documented research that underpins every element of Ryan Vincent's experience.
Brian lives in Greater Manchester.
Signal 369 Publishing was established to bring The Frequency series to readers. The name references the Schumann resonance — the electromagnetic frequency of the Earth's atmosphere, 7.83 hertz, the signal that runs beneath everything.

"Souls don't evolve through comfort alone. Some choose harder paths because harder paths create deeper understanding. Deep experience accelerates consciousness."
